Puerto Rico Power Recovery
Automated Artemia Hatchery
Following Hurricane María’s historic 2017 blackout in Puerto Rico, this study investigates the logistical and structural vulnerabilities that delayed power restoration. Using public government data and OECD composite indicator methodology, the research isolates "non-wind-driven" variables from highly variable weather conditions. The findings critically evaluate established prioritization protocols, revealing how critical infrastructure and socioeconomic factors heavily overlapped with grid recovery times once wind effects were removed.

Optimal Fiber Mix Tool
Optimal Fiber Mix Tool
As part of the American Industrial Partner (AIP), Tauber students are assigned to work at Enviva. Our work surrounded the Optimal Fiber Mix Tool is a unified decision-making framework designed to reduce processing bottlenecks and boost profitability. By validating and updating moisture content (MC) assumptions and integrating the model's first particle size distribution (PSD) metrics, this tool, as we left it, achieved a 5.2% increase in predictive capacity accuracy. Additionally, a new transpiration-dried wood (T-wood) model predicts natural wood aging to optimize summer throughput.

Tsunami modeling of Ofunato, Japan
A collection of coastal engineering projects centered on flood risk mitigation and structural resilience, primarily simulated within Ofunato Bay, Japan. Utilizing Delft3D, evaluated the impacts of tsunami waves to design and test structural interventions such as embankments and flood walls. This work integrates hydraulic design, geotechnical fundamentals, and climate change projections to minimize structural and land-use vulnerabilities.

California Rail System
California Rail System
Following historic cost creep and structural budget revisions, this project evaluates the economic viability of the proposed California High-Speed Rail system. Using public agency planning documents and regression methodologies, the research isolates initial capital cost escalation from long-term operational revenue streams. Additionally, it included a cost-benefit analysis, various ways of calculating a breakeven point and along side these a sensivity analysis for multiple components of O&M costs.

Vibrio in Chesapeake Bay
Vibrio in Chesapeake Bay
Vibrio spp. is a flesh-eating bacterium that can infect humans through the consumption of raw shellfish. The presence of Vibrio is usually associated with specific water parameters, but this report also accounts for spatial proximity to align with historical data in various methods and with a differing pool of variables to analyze.
